What a good solar install looks like

Most solar horror stories in Michigan come down to a few skipped steps. Here is what we do on every job, and what you should expect from anyone you hire.

  • A site visit before the price. Roof age, shading, panel orientation and your electrical panel all change the design. A quote from a satellite photo alone is a guess.
  • A system sized to your usage, from your last 12 months of bills, not a sales target.
  • A local electrical permit and a final inspection. Your city or township must sign off. Many systems we repair were never inspected and never allowed to run.
  • Utility interconnection. Consumers Energy, DTE, Holland BPW and other utilities must approve the system before it is switched on. We handle the paperwork and don't call the job done until approval arrives.
  • Warranties in writing, from both the equipment manufacturers and the installer, with the paperwork registered in your name.

How a quote works

  1. Send us your address and a recent electric bill, or just the form above.
  2. We look at your roof and usage and call you with honest options, including "not yet" if solar doesn't make sense for your house.
  3. You get a written quote with the equipment named, the price, the permit and utility steps, and the warranties.
  4. Licensed install, permit, inspection, utility approval. You don't pay for a system that isn't turned on.

Why people in West Michigan call us

We spend our days fixing what other solar companies left behind: unfinished permits, systems that never got turned on, inverters nobody will warranty. That's exactly why our own installs are done the boring, correct way. Every job is permitted, inspected and approved by your utility before we call it done, and the company that installed it is still here next year.

Common questions

Do you install new solar systems, or only repair them?

Both. Our licensed Michigan installation partner installs new home solar systems and batteries across West Michigan, and repairs systems other companies left behind.

Does solar work in Michigan's climate?

Yes. Panels produce well through our long, bright summers and less in December. Snow slides off tilted panels, and cold weather actually improves panel efficiency. A good design accounts for the whole year.

How long does a solar installation take?

The install itself is usually one to three days. Permits, inspection and utility approval add several weeks before the system can be switched on. We don't call the job done until it is approved and producing.

Do I need a permit for solar in Michigan?

Yes. A local electrical permit with a final inspection, and interconnection approval from your utility. Skipping either is how homeowners end up with panels that were never allowed to run.
